Cardiovascular Disease

Oxford Biosystems offers a range of ELISA kits for the determination of biomarkers in cardiovascular disease as well as a variety of specific antibodies and proteins for the research laboratory.

Endothelin is a potent vasoconstrictor and is produced by vascular endothelial cells. Endothelin (ET) and Big Endothelin-1 (Big ET) are strong predictors of survival in patients with congestive heart failure.

The natriuretic peptides BNP and ANP exert diuretic, natriuretic and vasodilatory effects and therefore contribute to the regulation of cardiovascular and body fluid homeostasis and blood pressure control. ANP is a cardiovascular risk factor in the context of hypertension, stroke, obesity and metabolic syndrome. BNP is predictive of cardiac dysfunction, in particular left ventricular dysfunction.

The gene encoding CNP is expressed in various tissues with particularly high concentrations in vascular endothelium and chondrocytes, inducing vasorelaxation and vascular remodelling, as well as regulating bone growth. The prognostic value of NT-proCNP in critically ill patients has been reported with highest levels seen in sepsis patients.

C4d is the degradation product of the activated complement factor C4. Detection of C4d is regarded as an indirect sign of an antibody response against an allograft. The majority of publications describe C4das an important marker in kidney transplantation, and also heart, liver and other transplants. The Biomedica anti C4d is optimised for use with paraffin and frozen sections of human tissue. It is also available as FITC labelled for use in flow cytometry.
